Slightly OT and of no particular importance. I was looking at the coast of
Lantau Island, HK and can't think what these strange things are.

  2. I'd say they're marine farms of some sort, or maybe just holding tanks for
live fish or seafood caught elsewhere.

Yes, except that they are casting quite long shadows, so must be high out of
    the water.

  4. Ah, well spotted, but I'm convinced you're drawing the wrong conclusion.

Look again. Where is the sun? The cloud shadows tell you.

Your "shadows" are not in the same direction, so must be something else,
like a change in surface reflectivity caused by ripple suppression, either
by simply being in the wind shadow of the structures or as a result of
oily pollutants secreted by the fish and being carried downwind or
    downstream.

Moreover, because the structures are not casting any perceptible sunlight
shadow in the appropriate direction, they *cannot* be high out of the water.

  5. Well, farm cages *are* prisons of sorts. Think "death row".
Could "Chi ma Wan" be Chinese for "fish and seafood"? :)

Google Maps describes the place where I used to work as a golf club.

You must be right. That is exactly what confused me. It's just a fish farm.

That's correct. I had some old photos of self there 40yrs ago and was
looking on google to see if it had changed much.

I suppose I asked for that. 40yrs ago I was 10 and we lived on Victoria. We
holidayed one summer in a bungalow by the beach which belonged to the
prison. It was a very remote place, only accessible by boat.
